Is My Refund Policy Compliant?
Paste your policy. We check it clause-by-clause against consumer-protection law where your customers buy.
- Clause-by-clause compliance per jurisdiction
- Surfaces statutory rights that override your stated policy
- Plain-English fix for each non-compliant clause
"Compliant" depends on where your customers actually buy. A refund policy that is fine for a US-only merchant ("30-day return on unopened items, store credit only") is unenforceable for the same merchant selling into the EU (must offer cash refund, must allow 14-day cooling-off). Our checker walks your policy clause by clause and tells you which clauses are compliant where, and which are overridden by statutory rights you cannot waive.

EU Consumer Rights Directive
14-day right of withdrawal, refund timing (14 days), refund method (same payment method), trader pays standard delivery refund. Exclusions per Art. 16.
UK Consumer Contracts Regulations + CRA 2015
14-day cooling-off per CCR 2013, plus 30-day short-term right to reject for defective goods under CRA 2015.
Australian Consumer Law
§§54-62 statutory guarantees, major-failure remedies (consumer chooses refund/repair/replacement), ACL §64 non-exclusion.
US state disclosure rules
California §1723 conspicuous posting; NY GBL §218-a default 30-day rule if no policy posted; state UDAP statutes for deceptive practices.
Payment-processor obligations
Stripe / Shopify Payments / PayPal contractually require fair refund handling regardless of stated policy. Chargeback liability for non-compliance.
What you'll probably see in the report.
US policy applied to international customers
Most common compliance pattern: a US-style "all sales final" policy used unchanged for EU / UK / AU sales. Several clauses unenforceable.
"30-90 day refund processing"
Exceeds EU CRD 14-day refund-timing requirement. Common for merchants whose accounting cycle drives the timing.
No California §1723 posting
California requires the refund policy be conspicuously posted at point of sale. Common gap for e-commerce stores selling into California.
